Exfoliate
Matte lipsticks have a non-glossy finish. So, dry lips are likely to appear flaky and may highlight the cracks, especially the darker shades. So, before you pick up your matte lipstick, pick up a lip scrub.
‘Why?’, you ask. Just like your face scrub removes dirt and grime, and makes you look energetic and fresh, the lip scrub will gently exfoliate all the dry skin and dead cell build-up, leaving behind soft, supple lips and a perfect base for your favourite matte lipstick color.
Apply lip liner
To define your transfer-proof matte lipstick, even more, use a lip liner. Also, for the fact that they make your lips look bigger and fuller. Lip liners are to lips what mascara is to eyes – if you apply them, they create a subtle magic but if you leave them, they will make your makeup look somehow incomplete.

Simply use a good quality micellar and wipe off all the drama in one go. If you don’t have a micellar, you can soak a cotton pad in a cleanser, hold it over your lips for a few seconds, then wipe it off gently.

Don’t apply on dry and chapped lips
Matte Lipstick tends to settle in the cracks and lines, if any on the lips, making them look patchy and flaky. So if you have dry or chapped lips, try avoiding all types of matte lipstick. You can also wear a lip moisturizer or a lip balm and then apply transfer-proof matte lipstick.
Don’t apply multiple layers
Matte Lipsticks are flat and applying multiple layers will make it look uneven and messy. One swipe and that’s all. Don’t overdo it!
Don’t go far outside the lines
As much as you would want to go for that over-lined celeb pout, REFRAIN!
Because the matte finish will make it look artificial. If you still want fuller lips, apply lip liner just slightly outside the lips, and fill the inside with your matte lipstick.
